Kenyans have cited the high cost of living as their biggest concern at 51 per cent, in the latest Nation Wide Perception survey done by InfoTrak.
Second on the list was unemployment which stood at 36 per cent, as corruption closed the top three issues of concern with 24 per cent.
Over-taxation and the switch from NHIF to SHIF close the curtains on the top five issues at 23 per cent each.
Other issues raised are access to quality and affordable education, Cost of doing business, Extra-judicial killings, Insecurity/crime, Poverty reduction, Empowerment of youth and Cost of farm inputs like fertilizer and mechanical equipment, among others.
Youth grievances, Public participation, Access to clean water, Women empowerment, Equal distribution of resources, Drug and substance abuse/Alcoholism, Ethnicity/Tribalism, Environmental conservation, High cost of education and Disaster management are also featured on the list.
The survey was commissioned in partnership with the Electoral Law and Governance Institute for Africa (ELGIA).
The survey took place from November 16 to November 30, 2024, with a sample size of 2,400 respondents.
The quantitative survey had a margin of error of +2% at a 95 per cent degree of confidence.
The survey covered all the 47 counties in the 8 regions with data being processed and analysed using SPSS 26 Statistical software due to its high accuracy and reliability.
High cost of living topped across all the eight regions with respondents from between 45 to as high as 55 per cent saying the same.
Unemployment across the regions ranged from 32 per cent and as high as 39 per cent. In terms of gender, 49 per cent of males said the cost of living was high, compared to women who were the majority at 52 per cent.
Both genders tied on unemployment at 36 per cent, while most male respondents said corruption was high at 25 per cent. Some 22 per cent of women said the same.
