Neno Evangelism Centre founder, Pastor James Ng’ang’a, is not new to controversy. Pastor Ng’ang’a slapped a congregant. Why did Pastor Ng’ang’a slap church member? A video doing rounds on social media has irked Kenyans, who accused him of maltreating a member of his congregation who dozed off during a church service. The clip started by showing the preacher saying how averse he is to drama. “I hate drama, I swear before God,” he said. Ng’ang’a then noticed the church member sleeping and paused for a moment. The pastor then walked down the steps from the pulpit towards the front row seats in the church.
“Many things are happening in Kenya,” he said. The camera then panned to show a man fast asleep in his seat. The preacher momentarily stood next to him before raising his hand and slapping him across the face. “Wake up,” he told the startled man, who woke up and found the preacher standing over him. The man smiled, but Ng’ang’a was not yet done as he slapped him again on the face. He then hit him in the back and ordered him to vacate the seat. “Go sit in the back,” he said, hitting him in the back again. Ng’ang’a then insulted the man as he walked to the back of the church. He then turned his anger to a woman who was sitting next to the sleeping congregant. “Why are you letting him sleep?” he asked. The woman said she did not notice the man sleeping as she was concentrating on the sermon. The video attracted mixed reactions, with some Kenyans slamming the preacher for his actions. Others said they would have hit him back.
