When it rains it pours, and it seems that is what is happening to the Super Metro matatu sacco. A Super Metro matatu was in an accident. The Sacco operating in Nairobi has been making news for the wrong reasons in the recent past, and their woes seemingly continue. Were Super Metro buses suspended? The rain started beating Super Metro when one of their conductors was accused of pushing a passenger out of a moving vehicle. Gilbert Thuo reportedly disagreed with the conductor over KSh 30 fare, leading to his tragic death. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended Super Metro for breaching multiple legal requirements.
NTSA said some of the vehicles operated with expired inspection certificates, some lacked valid speed limiter certificates, and some lacked speed data transition displays. On Saturday, March 22, hundreds of vehicles were inspected at the NTSA. The sacco further took its staff for a sensitisation meeting during which they discussed different matters, including customer service. On Monday, March 24, the Transport and Licensing Appeals Board lifted the sacco’s suspension. Gilbert Thuo was allegedly pushed from a moving Super Metro matatu. Did Super Metro cause accident? However, shortly after, one of their matatus was involved in an accident. Photos doing the rounds online showed the PSV had collided with a black Range Rover with diplomatic license plates. The accident reportedly happened at the Daystar University roundabout.
While it is unclear what happened, the PSV seemingly hit the SUV from the back, breaking the windows and denting the body panels. The accident led many Kenyans to say that the sacco had picked up where they left off. Here are some of the comments: o_bryan90: “Maybe that driver was not in the meeting.” top2tymess: “Were you at the meeting? Driver: Which meeting are you talking about?” Flaviachege: “They are right back where they left off.” elirosh_thedj: “When the devil bets on you.” dj_sam_ke: “Sometimes, business can drive you up the wall.” ft_bill_: “What did you say you have hit? A Range Rover?” faa_abdul: “Is the sacco bewitched or what?” Plentyhunnidbands: “Boss, please log in to WhatsApp for a little bit.” deborah_mogere: “It’s giving ‘let’s pick up where we left off’.”
