Renowned journalist Rita Tinina was tragically discovered deceased in her home by her housekeeper. According to police reports, Tinina, aged 46, was found lifeless in her residence along Laikipia Road in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, on the morning of Sunday, March 17th.
Expected to be present at NTV, where she served as an Output Producer, Tinina failed to report for duty, prompting concern among her colleagues.
Management dispatched a colleague to her home, where the heartbreaking discovery was made.
The housekeeper recounted waking up as usual, only to notice Tinina’s absence and unresponsiveness. “She reported to a family friend that she is dead,” revealed the family friend.
Scheduled to commence work at 8 am to prepare for the 1 pm bulletin, Tinina’s absence by 9 am raised alarm.
Upon attempting to rouse her, the housekeeper found the door unlocked and Tinina unresponsive. Alerting a family friend who had seen Tinina the previous night, further confirmation of her condition was sought.
Upon the friend’s arrival, Tinina’s unresponsiveness was confirmed, and her daughter was promptly removed from the distressing scene. An ambulance was summoned, and medical personnel confirmed Tinina’s passing.
Police are currently investigating the incident, with initial speculation suggesting a possible seizure as the cause of death.
Tinina’s untimely demise reverberated throughout the journalistic community, with an outpouring of tributes highlighting her dedication, humility, and professionalism.
Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai joined in mourning her loss, lauding her integrity and contributions to journalism.
In a statement, Nation Media Group, Tinina’s employer, expressed profound sadness at her passing, acknowledging her remarkable career spanning over two decades.
