The newly sworn-in Meru Governor Rev. Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has promised the county executive members that there will be a smooth transition without victimization when their time to exit comes.
During his first day in office after the swearing-in ceremony Monday, Mutuma held a meeting with County Executive Committee Members (CECs), Chief Officers (CO), Chief Executive Officers and directors from various Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) to chart the way forward for the new regime.
“Today I met with the County Staff for introduction and getting updates on work progress done by our departments for future planning and also talk about the past that we’ve had albeit painful, and we have agreed as a team that we will walk the journey together,” said Mutuma.
He said his first assignment would be to bring the people of Meru together and heal the wounds inflicted on some of the workers in the course of their work, specifically in a very difficult working environment.
We discussed several issues on how to improve the working environment of our staff and those likely to go with the former governor because that is what the constitution dictates, added the governor.
“I encouraged them not to have any tension before that time comes. This is their government and I have been their Deputy Governor, therefore I abhor no ill feelings against any of the serving officers, and when their time comes to exit, they will do so in dignity and honour and they will not live to remember Meru County with bad memories,” said Mutuma.
He appreciated the staff for the time they served the people, adding that they had done nothing wrong to warrant their way out, but they will be follow the constitutional guidelines.
“There will be no harassment of any staff member whether you were supporting the former Governor or not because that was the right thing to do at that time,” Mutuma said.
He added that as the immediate former Deputy Governor, he suffered humiliation, but he was not going to revenge, since those who did so, were doing it in their own style.
From here, Mutuma added, it is moving forward with our priority agenda, one being the welfare of the county workers and afterwards delivering development and services to the people of Meru because, by God’s grace, we have the opportunity to serve in these high offices.
“We are not here to make ourselves happy, but to make the people get services, development and transform their lives,” said Mutuma.
