Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro has lost his position as chair of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro is a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee. Why was Ndindi Nyoro removed? This followed a reconstitution of various committees after a motion tabled by Mugirango South MP Sylvanus Osoro. Osoro, the National Assembly majority whip, proposed the names of the MPs to be assigned to different parliamentary committees. Allies of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua were also kicked out of their plum positions.
They include Wanjiku Muhia, James Gakuya, and Onesmus Ngogoyo, who also lost their committee roles. Osoro said that within seven days, the members of the various committees would convene and choose their chairpersons. According to him, the list of members suggested to the committees was developed by considering several criteria, including negotiations, gender issues, regional concerns, and party affiliation. “More than 90 MPs expressed interest in joining the budget and appropriations committee. The only option to strike a balance between the 90 and the 27 that the standing order provision allows is to devise a formula that takes into account geographical concerns, gender issues, political affiliation issues, and negotiations. We therefore implore this house to support this list in its current form.
However, there has also been a lot of politics surrounding the formation as we proceed. Within seven days, the members who were chosen after passing will convene and choose their own chairpersons,” Osoro said on Wednesday, March 5 at the August House. However, Nyoro was retained as a member of the committee.
