Kaplong Boys High School has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of its principal, Mike Yator. Mike Yator served as the chief principal at Kaplong Boys before his demise. According to reports, Yator collapsed and died in while in his residence within the school premises. Bomet county police commander, Edward Ibwaga, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the principal’s body was transferred to a morgue pending further examination as investigations into the cause of death commenced. How did the Kaplong principal die? Education News reported that Yator was in high spirits on Monday, March 3, as he welcomed students back from the mid-term break.
He ensured everything was in order until around 9:30 p.m. when he mentioned feeling slightly fatigued before retiring for the night. However, concern grew on Tuesday morning when he failed to report to his office. Worried staff members went to check on him at his residence, where they discovered his lifeless body. The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) responded to the distressing news, with vice chair for Bomet, Peter Bett, visiting the school and urging the community to remain calm. He described Yator as a dedicated educator whose leadership and commitment to students’ welfare would be greatly missed. KUPPET officials from neighboring Kericho county, including Executive Secretary Mary Rotich and Treasurer Zablon Kipkoech Rono, also expressed their shock and grief, extending their condolences to the late principal’s family, students, teachers, and the entire school community.

Bomet governor, Hillary Barchok, described Yator as a passionate and dedicated educator whose impact on the education sector would be deeply felt. “I have learnt with deep shock and sorrow of the sudden passing on of Mike Yator, the chief principal of Kaplong Boys High School. Under his astute leadership, Kaplong Boys towered both in academics and extra curricular activities. Mwalimu you will be dearly missed,” the governor wrote in a post.
Bomet senator, Hillary Sigei, also eulogised Yator, praising his leadership and unmatched commitment to academic excellence. Additionally, Bomet woman representative, Linet Chepkorir, joined in expressing condolences, noting that Yator’s passing was not just a loss for Kaplong Boys High School but for the entire education fraternity in the region. Primary schools head die in a road accident Yator’s demise closely follows that of Johnson Nzioka, the former chairman of the Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association (KEPSHA). Nzioka tragically lost his life on February 16, in a road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near Athi River. A Nairobi court issued orders halting his burial pending a case hearing over the late teacher’s family issues, which were lifted and the educator laid to rest.
