Sharon K. Mwangi says she is now unrecognizable to people who knew her a few years ago. She has been on a spiritual journey, openly sharing her faith transformation with her fans.
The Best Kept Secrets podcaster recently had a conversation with DJ Moz, where she opened up about her decision to get saved—a stark contrast to her former self.
One of the hardest challenges she faced was walking away from her childhood friends. “When I was a child, a teenager, I was wild. I was out here doing some crazy things. In high school, I broke some rules, but I also grew up in a sheltered environment, so I didn’t have the leeway to do a lot.”
She admitted that things got even more intense during her university years. “I made sure I went the furthest away. I did the wildest, craziest things I could. But when I became an adult, from my mid-20s, I started to embrace structure—that’s why I am the way I am right now. It’s basically adulting. I couldn’t keep being crazy and spontaneous.”
Her decision to stop partying had a significant impact on her friendships. “We kind of just drifted. It’s just life—we are not aligned anymore, but I still have love for them.”
Sharon revealed that one of her biggest fears about becoming a Christian was losing friends.
“I actually thought about this not so long ago. A lot of my friends from university—I’m not friends with them anymore because I realized they were my party friends. They were friends out of convenience. We lived in the same space in school, had the same classes, and partied together.
When I stopped partying and drinking, we just drifted. Obviously, there’s no hate—it’s just life. We’re not aligned anymore, we’re not chasing the same things, but I still have love for them.”
Despite this, she was able to retain some close friends.
“I guess it’s by the mercy of God that I still have them. You know, I kept hearing people say, ‘Oh, when you become a Christian, you’re going to lose all your friends and relationships,’ and that’s something I really feared for myself.”
Now, she finds herself mentoring some of her friends as they embark on their own spiritual journeys. She also opened up about experiencing several episodes of depression, which took a toll on her life and ultimately led to a pivotal moment—her decision to give her life to Christ. It has now been eight years.
“That’s why God means so much to me—because no one else could have taken me out of that place. There’s a level of help that can only come from God,” she shared.
