Administration Police Service (APS) Bomet Football Club has reinforced its squad by signing in five new players, in readiness for the second leg of the 2024/25 National Super League (NSL) encounter.
The Bomet County-based club, which currently ranks second on the NSL table with 40 points, one point behind leaders Nairobi United, is hopeful that the new signings will bolster their chances of securing promotion to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) at the end of the season.
The newly signed players, who come from various clubs, include Kimutai Felix (APS Division Two), Felix Seda (Nzoia Sugar), Peter Mwaura (Police FC) and John Mabia (Fortune Sacco).
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony at Bomet IAAF Stadium, APS Bomet CEO Chief Inspector Rose Chemutai emphasized the importance of strengthening the team, particularly in attack and defense, which she noted were areas of concern in the first leg.
`”We identified our weak areas in the first half of the season, and that’s why we have brought in these players to reinforce our squad. Our target is clear; we want to win and secure promotion to the top flight FKF-KPL,” said Chemutai.
As APS Bomet prepares for their first second-leg match against Naivasha United on Saturday, Chemutai also called on leaders from the region to support the team financially, citing difficulties in funding the club’s activities.
Chemutai noted that despite APS Bomet being the only NSL side from the region, the team was struggling financially and urged local leaders to step in and support them.
She took the opportunity to announce that APS Bomet football club will also be launching a membership registration drive on Saturday to help form a formidable fan and support base for the team.
APS Bomet’s Head Coach, Mafuta, expressed confidence in the new signings, stating that the team has prepared well for the second leg of the season. He urged fans to turn up in large numbers for their home match against Naivasha United.
“The new players have settled in well, and we have worked on our weaknesses, ready for the challenge ahead,” said Mafuta.
The club is on a mission to prove a point after a series of setbacks, including a controversial suspension from the NSL during the 2022–2023 season.
APS Bomet had previously won the NSL in the 2021–2022 season and earned promotion under the FKF Caretaker Committee. However, their promotion was nullified by the reinstated FKF National Executive Committee, which declared seasons under the caretaker committee void.
The club was then relegated to the Division One league, where they fought back to win Zone ‘B’ with 60 points from 30 matches, securing their return to the NSL.
