JKUAT Student Dies after Falling from 3rd Floor of University’s Hostel

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is mourning the tragic death of one of its students who fell from the third floor of the hostel. A JKUAT student died after discussing his mental state with his father at the institution.  On Saturday evening, March 30, Michael Muoki Mutisya, a first-year computer science student, confided in his parents about the overwhelming challenges he faced, expressing his desire to end his life.  Acting swiftly, his parents rushed to the university and visited him at Ndovu Hostel (hall six), engaging in a conversation where they mutually agreed to address his struggles together at home.  What led to the JKUAT student’s death? However, while purportedly going to pack his belongings, he slipped away to the restroom, where the unfortunate incident occurred, leading to his traumatising fall. According to a report witnessed by TUKO.co.ke, Muoki was pronounced dead at the JKUAT Hospital, where efforts to save his life failed. “In a deeply distressing turn of events, Michael Muoki Mutisya, a 1.2 computer science student at JKUAT residing in Ndovu Hostel (Hall 6) tragically ended his life by falling from the third floor. Muoki reached out to his parents, articulating his profound fatigue with life, before making the irreversible decision to take his own life in front of them. Despite the valiant efforts by the medical personnel at JKUAT Hospital, his life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead,” read a report by the institution.  The family of the deceased verified the incident, confirming that the body had been transferred to Thika Level Five Hospital Mortuary for further processing. The university emphasised the urgent need for mental health support and awareness initiatives in academic institutions and societies.
