Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has announced his return to active politics, just a month after his impeachment. . Gachagua has outlined a move to remove Ruto from office.  Why Gachagua wants to form new political movement Speaking at an AIPCA Kangari, Kigumo on Sunday, November 24, Gachagua revealed plans to establish a formidable political movement in 2025, aiming to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election. 

Gachagua, the former Mathira MP, expressed confidence that the movement would be a game-changer, vowing to rally Mt. Kenya region voters and protect their interests. “The political movement that will start in this mountain in 2025. 2002 will look like a joke. We shall join other Kenyans to get on the right trajectory and define our destiny,” he stated. He asserted that the movement’s primary goal would be to challenge President William Ruto’s leadership and potentially send him packing in the next election. 

Reflecting on the political dynamics in Mt. Kenya, Gachagua criticised the region’s earlier decision to align with Ruto, stating that the choice was made without fully understanding the President’s true character. The outspoken leader reiterated his commitment to defending the interests of the mountain region, emphasising his mission to ensure its voters are not taken for granted in future elections.

 “Never again shall any leader take this mountain for granted and never again shall we gamble our votes. Our vote will be well organised, calculated, anchored and protected so that the mountain will never find itself in the very awkward situation we find ourselves in,” he added.  Gachagua’s remarks come as political temperatures rise, setting the stage for a potential clash of titans in Kenya’s political arena.
