Having contested for the Lumakanda ward representative seat in 2022 under the UDA ticket, Mapesa had endeavoured to serve his community with dedication and passion. Was Godfrey Mapesa the Lumakanda ward representative? Despite the hopes and aspirations he held for his constituency, fate had different plans, as he was not elected to the position he sought. The news of Mapesa’s premature passing has engulfed the entire region in sadness, leaving his friends, family, and supporters devastated by the departure of a beloved figure. His impact on the community, his aspirations for its improvement, and the hope he represented for the future are now treasured recollections in the sombre ambience. “A fatal road traffic accident at Mwamba in Lugari has this morning claimed the life of our friend and political comrade, Godfrey Mapesa. It’s hard to come to terms with this. I extend my condolences to the people of Lumakanda ward, his family, colleagues, and friends,” mourned Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale.
