Manchester United are in a precarious position following a dreadful run of form. The Red Devils replaced Erik ten Hag with Ruben Amorim last month, but the Portuguese coach has not started well. The former Sporting CP boss has praised defender Harry Maguire, who he believes has proved the doubters wrong. Harry Maguire is one of the first names on Ruben Amorim’s team sheet.
Amorim lauds Harry Maguire Maguire has had a difficult last few years. Poor performances on the pitch resulted in intense criticism, especially on social media. Form and injury saw him miss Euro 2024 with England, but he has bounced back impressively this campaign. “He’s working really well. He’s focused on the job, not what people say. He has no excuses – even if he’s had some tough moments. In that respect, he’s an example. He’s there to play to help the team and he’s trying to do that,” Amorim said via The Mirror.
Former Man United boss Erik ten Hag took the captaincy off him last year and handed it to Bruno Fernandes. After Fernandes’ red card against Wolves, Maguire might wear the armband against Newcastle United on Monday, December 30. Maguire sympathisers with Amorim TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Maguire shared his thoughts on Amorim, who is under pressure after a poor start as Man United boss. The 31-year-old feels sorry that the Portuguese coach hasn’t got time on the training pitch to improve the team. Amorim has overseen three straight defeats, leaving his team 14th in the table.
Amorim admits he could be fired TUKO.co.ke also reported that Amorim admitted that he could be sacked if things don’t improve at Man United. The 39-year-old said he understands what comes with the job, welcoming the challenge ahead. With the team hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, he is under pressure.
