Kakamega: Boda boda riders warned against flouting rules as festive mood heightens

Counties

As the festive mood heightens, concerns have been raised about the lacklustre nature of some boda boda riders on the roads in Kakamega county, with many flouting traffic rules and endangering the lives of passengers and pedestrians.

In a bid to curb road accidents, a group of 240 boda boda operators received training in an initiative in which the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) partnered with a local organisation to refresh riders on road safety measures.

Kakamega county boda boda association chairman, Peter Ochango, on Friday urged riders to maintain order on the roads, even as they try to cash in on the peak festive season.

“Let us not be the ones accused of causing accidents on the road as this will hurt our business. Let the focus be on making good returns this Christmas season as we maintain traffic rules,” he said.

Ochango urged NTSA to continue having refresher courses to help rider keep up to date with traffic rules.

Meanwhile, several motorists were Thursday arrested and vehicles impounded in an ongoing intensified nationwide crackdown by NTSA to curb flouting of traffic rules during the festive season.
