Ministry probes misuse of funds at Alliance

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Monday said his ministry will push for the interdiction of individuals involved in the misappropriation of funds at Alliance Girls High School once investigations are complete.
Dr Matiang’i said the ministry had launched its own investigations after receiving a report from the school’s board of management, chaired by Mr Joseph Njoroge, who is also the Energy Principal Secretary.
“We are conducting our own investigations before making our recommendation to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC),” the CS said.

He went on: “The TSC is the constitutional agency tasked with handling of issues of discipline. We will investigate and engage them as the employer for action.”
The school management has held several meetings with Education ministry officials.
At the same time, the school head, Ms Catherine Irungu, denied claims that she had been kicked out to allow for the probe.
“I have been in this school for one term only,” Ms Irungu said.
Last year, the Ministry of Education started investigating a number of schools for allegedly inflating enrolment figures in a bid to unduly benefit from free learning cash.
