Reuters reports that five people people have been taken to hospital in a stable condition, and one serious.
Local media are reporting that four people have died and 11 were injured in the shooting, citing police sources.
Sheriff Mike Williams did not confirm the number of fatalities during a press briefing a Jacksonville Landing.
Police have finished “clearing the landing” of potential witnesses and victims.
There are “no outstanding suspects”, with one – a white male – dead at the scene.
People are still being advised to stay away from the area.

Today’s incident is not the only mass shooting in Florida in recent memory.
In February, 17 people were killed at a high school in Parkland.
Earlier this month, police released footage of suspect Nikolas Cruz asking officers to kill him shortly after he was arrested.
Cruz, 19, faces 17 counts of premeditated murder and 17 of attempted murder.
And two years ago, a gunman killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
The attacker, Omar Mateen, was involved in a three-hour stand-off with officers before SWAT teams stormed the building and shot him dead.
