Police officers have impounded a bhang haul worth more than Sh1.5million in Migori County.
Police in Rongo Saturday intercepted a Toyota Probox car which was carrying seven sacks of the illegal drug as it headed to Kisii Town.
The driver attempted to reverse at high speed to escape from the officers but ended up hitting a tree by the roadside, said county police chief Joseph Nthenge.
The car was damaged while the driver was arrested.
Mr Nthenge said he was locked up at the Rongo Police Station.
Bhang trade has remained a lucrative business in the county despite attempts by the police to stamp out the drug trafficking.
Most of the bhang consumed in Kenya is said to come from neighbouring Tanzania’s wet highlands of Mara province.
Meetings between Kenya and Tanzanian authorities to address the cross-border drug trade have yielded little results.
