Go through the Building Bridges Initiative report before critisizing it, president Uhuru Kenyatta has said.
Speaking during the fourth Kibabii graduation on Friday, Uhuru said there are some politicians who poke holes into the report and yet they did not know what was contained inside.
“Hakuna haja ya matusi, kama kuna wale wanasema hawaitaki na hata hawajui nini iko ndani,” Uhuru said.
(There is no need for insults, there are people who claim that they don’t want BBI and yet they do not know its contents).
He added: “Only a fool will say that there are no issues in this country that require addressing.”
Uhuru asked Kenyans to thoroughly go through the report once they receive it.
“Let us just take time to got through it together and to come out with good things that can make our country even better, more united and that make our institutions more inclusive,” Uhuru said.
His remarks on BBI comes shortly after BBI taskforce chairman Yussuf Haji said that the report will be handed over to the President on Tuesday 26.
The taskforce was formed on March 9 last year after Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga shook hands with a view of ending hostility among Kenyans.
The nine issues include ethnicism, lack of national ethos, inclusivity, devolution, divisive elections, security, corruption, shared prosperity and responsibilities and rights.
The President also urged the graduating students to use their knowledge to transform the nation.
“High education is a key factor in a nation’s effort to develop a high skill workforce with new thinking orientation that positions it to compete in the global economy,” Uhuru said.
He added that the change in the education system was based on the shortages of skills in main sectors which are critical to the country’s economic prosperity.
“This calls for a deeper re-examination as well as reforms in our entire education system as well as our universities. To survive in the 21st century, we must come up with educational curriculum that is designed, equipped and enable the learners to develop and own intellectual capacities relevant to the world today,” Uhuru added.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha who accompanied the President challenged the institution to carry out research in environmental and agricultural areas such as coming up with sugar that matures in less than one year.
