France coach Didier Deschamps revealed that captain Kylian Mbappe is “not doing well” after sustaining a possible broken nose during their 1-0 victory over Austria on Monday.

Despite French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo stating that Mbappe doesn’t need surgery, the full extent of the injury remains uncertain.

Mbappe suffered the injury late in the game when his face collided with Kevin Danso’s shoulder. Bleeding heavily, he received on-field treatment and was eventually replaced by Olivier Giroud.

Descham stressed the complexity of Mbappe’s condition and the importance of medical evaluation.

The injury raises concerns about Mbappe’s availability for France’s next match against the Netherlands on Friday.

Deschamps acknowledged the team’s strength with Mbappe and the challenges they might face without him.

Mbappe’s influence is crucial, having contributed significantly to France’s goals, including an assist leading to Austria’s own goal.

The 25-year-old forward, with 47 goals in 80 appearances for France, is set to join Real Madrid from Paris St-Germain this summer.

His participation in Euro 2024 is vital for France’s pursuit of their third European title.
