comedian Eric Omondi

On Friday Night comedian Eric Omondi was finally released from police custody after being arrested earlier in the day.

The comedian was arrested outside parliament and taken to Central Police Station for allegedly staging anti-Finance Bill protests using a horse.

Kenyans from all walks of life took to social media to call for his immediate release after police started playing games with his lawyers who had gone to secure his freedom.

Immediately after his release, Omondi used his socials to inform his fans and followers that he was a freeman.

He headed straight to Carnivore grounds for his brother’s night vigil dubbed ‘Fred Omondi’s Last Laugh’

“Tukutane Carnivore sasa!! I’m on my way to ‘One more Last laugh’ for Fred Omondi,” he said.

Omondi also assured his fans that he was very okay despite being manhandled by the police during his arrest.

He only complained about being hurt on his back when he was pulled down from the horse.

Eric Omondi’s Arrest

In a video seen by the Mpasho, Omondi was in the company of a few other individuals donned in red clothes, while protesting.

The comedian and activist was on a horse marching with the others when police officers followed them.

“Power to the people,” they were heard chanting.

The officers then pulled Omondi from the back of the horse and detained him.

On Thursday, Omondi had in a post on X, form, early Twitter, called out legislators who had voted in favour of the contentious Finance Bill, 2024.

The Bill was endorsed by 204 MPs to sail through the Second Reading stage. Only 115 MPs opposed.
