Maureen Vihenda has emotionally narrated the day she lost her newborn following an altercation with her husband. She recalled finding herself in the hospital after her husband landed blows on her while advanced in her pregnancy. “The child survived for three weeks before passing away. The man never even set foot in the hospital. He told me to ask the morgue how much they would charge to bury the baby. We were charged KSh 5000, but my mum told me to take my child to her, and she’d bury it herself. The people at the morgue told me there was no need to pay because they had seen the struggle I had gone through with the baby since it was in the nursery. We should use the KSh 5,000 to travel to Western. They prepared the baby and gave it to me as I gave one of the ladies who had accompanied me,” she remembered. Who buried Maureen Vihenda’s baby? She had even prepared a coffin, and so we buried the baby at night at our home,” she narrated painfully.
