The victims were returning to Georgia from the UK. The family had been returning home from watching their 12-year-old son’s baseball team play in a tournament at Cooperstown, home to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The incident involved a single-engine Piper PA-46 that crashed in a rural, wooded area around 2 pm on Sunday, June 30, shortly after taking off from a regional airport in Oneonta, as reported by the New York Times.  The victims included two minors aged 10 and 12. Authorities from the National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration, and New York State Police Bureau are investigating the crash, although the cause remains unclear.
