A man who stole shoes worth Sh1,500 will serve three years in jail after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Justus Ongeri was convicted on Wednesday by Kibera senior principal magistrate Sharon Maroro.

Ongeri is said to have stolen the shoes from John Shimanyula’s house in Dagoretti subcounty on July 12.

According to the prosecution, Ongeri went to Shimanyula’s house and took his shoes, putting his slippers in place of them.

The caretaker noticed him and raised the alarm, making the complainant arrive at the scene and identify the shoes.

“The complainant’s shoes were new as they had been bought from the market but the accused person’s shoes were some red slippers that had been amended with a wire. The complainant was not able to produce the receipts from where he bought the shoes,” said the prosecution.

The accused person told court that the complainant assaulted him and he was in pain.

“He colluded with a friend to beat me up,” he said.

Prosecutor Geoffrey Obiri told court that the accused person was a first time offender.

The magistrate sentenced Ongeri and ordered that he be taken for treatment.
