At least 20 senior officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have been moved in recent changes, the Star has learned.
The changes were announced by DCI boss George Kinoti on Monday.
In the changes, Kinoti moved Kiambu head of DCI Jeremiah Ikiao to Eastern and named him the regional head in a promotion.
Ikiao took over from Johnah Kirui who moved to Western in the same capacity after the retirement of Western regional DCI boss Shem Nyamboki.
Also moved include Kakamega CCIO Peter Kimulwa who was moved to Turkana in the same capacity swapping positions with James Lelia
Other new County Criminal Investigations Officers (CCIO) named include Daniel Kandie (Murang’a), Samuel Kobina (Kitui), Paul Wachira (Kiambu), John Kamau (Railways) and Geoffrey Kathurima (Kilifi).
Kathurima was recently moved from Kisii county to Railways.
It is not clear why he has been moved again but officials said the move was aimed at enhancing operations at the Railways command that is increasingly becoming busy and demanding.
Kayole head of DCI Josephat Ndungu was moved to Mombasa and replaced by Dadaab’s Peter Rioba.
While Ndungu moves from an area where he delt with deadly youth gangs who specialize in robbing and muggings, in Mombasa, he faces a bigger challenge of dealing with the intricate web of narcotics business.
Drugs operations in the Coastal city has prompted transfers of police bosses in the past.
Ndungu replaces Antony Mureithi who was transferred last month.
He had been Urban DCIO before being promoted to Mombasa CCIO.
Mureithi will be based in Nakuru regional offices but not as the boss.
Officers who completed promotional courses at Loresho Police College are also expected to be moved in new stations.
Insiders say more changes in other departments are on way to enhance police operations in a service that continues to fight a dented reputation.
