ODM party leader Raila Odinga and National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo |
ODM party leader Raila Odinga on Friday met National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo at his office in Nairobi.
Raila did not give details of the discussions he had with Kiptoo but only said they talked about the economy.
“PS Treasury Chris Kiptoo visited me at Capitol Hill Square. We discussed key issues affecting the economy,” he said.
Kiptoo will work closely with John Mbadi, an ally of Raila if MPs approve his nomination as Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury.
Mbadi is among four ODM leaders who were nominated for various Cabinet positions.
The other three are Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives) and Hassan Joho (Mining).
Mbadi will appear before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments on Saturday for vetting.
As ODM chairman, Mbadi advised Raila on financial issues including national and party budgets.
Mbadi was the MP of Suba South Constituency in the 12th Parliament where he also served as the Leader of the Minority Party.
In the run-up to the 2022 elections, Mbadi left tongues wagging when he withdrew from the Homa Bay governor race to concentrate on Raila’s presidential campaigns.
He was set to battle out for the party’s ticket with then Woman Representative, Gladys Wanga, who is now the Homa Bay governor.
