Jeremiah Kioni and Raila Odinga

The crack within the Azimio la Umoja Coalition is widening as Jeremiah Kioni denies Raila’s allegations that former President Uhuru Kenyatta was involved in the formation of William Ruto’s broad-based government. Jeremiah Kioni dismissed Raila Odinga’s allegation of Uhuru Kenyatta’s involvement in the formation of Ruto’s broad-based government as untrue.  What did Kioni say about Raila’s claims? Speaking to the press on Wednesday, August 14, Kioni stated that Uhuru’s stance is that he cannot be involved in a government that has allegedly caused significant havoc in the country. “ Uhuru Kenyatta’s position is that you cannot join a government that is bent on causing all the havoc on Kenyans. This is not a government to join it is actually a government we should be working to remove as provided in the Constitution, ” Kioni said. He asserted that Raila’s claims that Uhuru encouraged him to talk to Ruto are untrue and inaccurate. He also referenced a letter from Uhuru, dated July 25, urging national leaders to listen to the concerns raised by Kenyans. The Jubilee Party Secretary General added that it was inappropriate for Raila to involve Uhuru’s name in his decision. “Both of them are politicians, so when you make a decision, as Uhuru did when he went to Kasarani and handed over the instruments of power even when he knew that elections had been rigged. That’s a decision he has lived with. He has never told us that Raila told him to go. Don’t blame others when you make wrong decisions live with them,” Kioni said.
