I have been shown different routes to follow until you reach the Lenana peak, ODM party leader Raila Odinga has said.

Raila who was speaking when he met about 25 Central region leaders, said he has been taken through the methods that he can use to climb the mountain in terms of wooing the votes.

“They have shown me different routes to follow until you reach the Lenana peak and we have agreed that we are in this match altogether,” Raila said.

“We can reach that glory land that was envisaged by our forefathers, which is about a God-fearing nation, where justice is the shield and defender, we live in unity, peace, and liberty.”

Raila said that he is looking for real partners from the mountain, and not followers.

The breakfast meeting in Nairobi was to craft the campaign strategy, where the ODM leader assured them that he will work with them.

Speaking after the meeting, Majority Leader in the National Assembly Amos Kimunya said they will continue with the same conversation.

“He has assured us that the interests of our region are safe with him because he got a commitment with him that he shared with our president in securing the gains for our region,” Kimunya said.

Kimunya said they will expand their engagement to the Parliament where the ODM and the Jubilee MPs will continue supporting the president in his work.

Raila has been having a series of meeting with leaders from the region, and also touring the region, engaging with the residents.

The meeting comes a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta gave the clearest signal, he is backing Raila as his preferred successor.

The president made the revelation when addressing a gathering in Kibra where he was accompanied by Raila for a tour of development projects.

The president opened two hospitals in the populous area that Raila represented as MP for decades.

President Kenyatta for the first time left no doubt that he wanted someone who would continue with his development plans after he exits in 2022.     BY THE STAR
