National Super League giants Shabana tactician Sammy Okoth is hopeful their midweek 2-0 triumph over struggling Vihiga United will inspire them to get another scalp when they host new boys SS Assad on Sunday at the Awendo Green Stadium.
Goals from Lington Ochieng and Justine Omwando in the first half ended Shabana’s four-game winless streak and elevated them to seventh on the NSL log on Okoth’s second game in charge.
The former Zoo Kericho, Sher Karuturi, and Vihiga United tactician is adamant his side has not veered off the road to promotion and has rallied his charge to carry their impervious form from midweek into the weekend fixture.
“I’m have we got our first win after a while and I know from my experience that such a win will make the boys believe they can go toe-to-toe with any team.
“On Sunday we are hosting SS Assad which is a very good side. We are ready to get into winning habits and I know that will get us to where we want at the end of the season.”
The glamour boys occupy the seventh position with 21 points after fourteen rounds of play.
Elsewhere Vihiga United assistant coach Samwel Otieno Twago says his side must shake off basic mistakes that haunted them in their loss to Shabana on Wednesday.
Despite having a good display, United were punished as costly mistakes were punished by hawk-eyed Shabana attackers to hand them their fifth loss of the season.
“We need to work on our focus because I felt we were lacking on that from Wednesday.
“They spoiled our good preparations. Am positive we can bounce back from this setback.”
