Wiper Democratic Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday, March 14, said the agreement they signed at KICC, Nairobi, during the coronation of Raila Odinga was not smoothly done.
Speaking to KTN News at his Tseikuru home, Kitui County, Kalonzo said there are doubts about the transparency of the process, stating that most of the parties were not aware of what they signed.
He revealed that during the meeting at the KICC, parties were hurriedly presented with two documents to sign.
“If I asked all those party secretary-generals present SGs what they affixed their signatures to, nobody knows,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo noted that the ODM Director of Elections Junet Muhammed introduced a second document to have the parties propose Raila as the presidential candidate of Azimio la Umoja.
The former Vice President noted that his party declined to sign that part of the agreement as the earlier agreement stated that the coalition would be named Azimio One Kenya Alliance.
He noted that he and his OKA co-principals would be retreating to review the legal technicalities of the agreement.
“I still want to have a meeting with my fellow principals and our lawyers, including myself to reflect on that technicality,” he said.
On Saturday, 26 political parties including the Wiper party, officially signed the coalition agreement committing to work with Azimio la Umoja at KICC.
The secretaries of the various parties also signed a commitment document to support Raila Odinga’s candidature.
It was proposed that they sign at a later time because President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila were late for a rally in Jacaranda.
West Pokot governor proposed Raila be the presidential candidate and was seconded by MP Mishi Mboko.
“Let’s celebrate since we now have our presidential candidate,” Suna East MP Junet Mohamed said after the signing ceremony. BY THE STAR
