Police are investigating an incident in which a 78-year-old woman was found dead in her house in Nyayo Estate, Embakasi, after a long bout of fasting and praying.
The body of Catherine Kibara was found in her bed long after she had gone missing.
Her relatives told police the woman stayed alone and it was unusual for her not to pick up calls.
On Monday, they went to her house and found it locked from the inside.
They broke the door of her house, where they found her body lying on the bed.
Police who arrived at the scene said they stumbled on a register showing she had been fasting and praying since May 18.
Police suspect she died out of starvation. The officers handling the case said they plan to conduct an autopsy on the body to establish how and why she died.
Elsewhere, a 51-year-old man collapsed and died while working out in a gym along Koinange Street, Nairobi.
The victim who has been visiting the gym for days is said to have collapsed as he ran on a treadmill, witnesses said.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say they intend to conduct a postmortem exercise to establish how he died.
And police are holding a 43-year-old woman over claims she stabbed and killed her husband in a domestic dispute in Nairobi’s Mathare slums.
The deceased, a tout in Gikomba area, is said to have picked up a quarrel with the woman, prompting a fight.
Police were called to the scene and took the body to the mortuary while the woman is expected to be processed for various charges.
