The Luanda Youth Movement has called on stakeholders to intensify efforts in the fight against jigger infestation in Vihiga County.

The youth group says the move is aimed at creating a more supportive environment for learners.

Led by Chairperson Paul Kuya, the youth highlighted that many students are withdrawing from schools due to fear of stigma associated with jigger infestations.

“Some pupils have been forced to stay at home due to fear of stigmatization,” Kuya said.

During an anti-jigger campaign at Emutsuru Primary School, the group emphasized that numerous challenges faced by young people are often overlooked.

Harrison Ambuko pointed out that, in addition to jigger infestations, issues such as unemployment, substance abuse, and insecurity require urgent attention.

Emutsuru Primary School Head Teacher Vitalis Kulundu also appealed to stakeholders for support, noting that many students affected by jiggers struggle to focus in class.
