Ruto meets UN boss Antonio Guterres ahead of first address

President William Ruto on Wednesday met with United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres in New York, USA.

The President, who is accompanied by First Lady Rachel, is in the US to attend the UN General Assembly.

Ruto is leading Kenya’s delegation at the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The two met shortly before Ruto was scheduled to address the general assembly sitting at around 9 pm Kenyan time (2pm American time).

Earlier, the President attended a high-level business round-table meeting hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce on trade and investment relationships between Kenya and the US.

He also held business meetings about fertiliser production and green energy as well as attended the Africa Investment Partnership Forum hosted by the United Nations Development Programme.

Discussions at the meeting centred on moving Africa from an aid-reliant continent to an investment hub.

Among those on the president’s entourage are his Foreign Policy Adviser Ababu Namwamba, Economic Adviser David Ndii, PS Health Susan Mochache, and PS Education Julius Jwan.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, his Garissa counterpart Aden Duale, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Ruto’s Director of Communications Hussein Mohammed are also present.
