Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that he’s undermined President William Ruto’s leadership. DP Rigathi Gachagua called for evidence of him undermining President William Ruto’s authority. During a press briefing on Monday, October 7, at his official residence, the DP stated that the president has never raised such concerns with him. The DP challenged the mover of his impeachment motion, Kibwezi West MP Eckomas Mwengi Mutuse, to provide evidence of the allegations. “For the record, President William Ruto has never complained to me that I have undermined him.
If he has told that to the mover of the motion, MP Mwengi Mutuse, I would like to know that he has complained to Mutuse that his deputy has undermined him,” the DP stated. What is Gachagua’s mandate The second in command highlighted some of his constitutional duties as he fought off the allegations against his conduct. Gachagua highlighted Article 147 of Kenyan law, which stipulates his mandate as the principal assistant to the president. “Article 147 of the constitution provides the DP shall be the principal assistant to the president and shall deputies for the president in the execution of the president’s function,” Gachagua explained.
