Facts about “Go Pato” hitmaker who is set to perform in Kenya soon

Patrick Murray popularly known as Pato Banton is a reggae singer and toaster from Birmingham, England, and is set to tour Kenya soon.

The tour comes after the reggae singer had, in December 2022, posted on social media; “I’m dreaming of doing a concert in Kenya!”

He received the nickname Pato Banton from his stepfather which translates as ‘Wise Owl’ and ‘Heavyweight DJ

He was born in 1961 meaning that he is currently 62 years.

In 1994, he achieved number one on the UK Singles Chart with a cover of The Equal’s “Baby Come” Back featuring Robin and Ali Campbell of UB40.

He has also been a grammy nominated reggae legend that has recorded and toured the world with The English Beat, Steel Pulse, UB40 & STING! (just to name a few) .

In 2000, he took a break and put his career on hold after his two sons had been shot in a drive-by shooting and turned his sorrows into the impetus for community and educational initiatives.

He has released almost five albums namely, Visions of the World, and Wize Up (No Compromise) Just to mention a few.

Last year, the singer faced backlash after he took to his social media platforms to share his desire to perform in Kenya.

He went ahead to share his official email asking promoters to reach out to him. 

Some promoters schooled him on how the industry works adding that they had had a private conversation with the musician.
