Comedian Eric Omondi |
Comedian Eric Omondi has spoken out following reports of his alleged abduction during the parallel Mashujaa Day celebrations at Uhuru Park. Eric Omondi speaks after alleged abduction. He says he donned a buibui to avoid arrest. Omondi had organised the event to honour protesters who were shot dead during the anti-finance bill demonstrations. Why Eric Omondi disguised himself during Mashujaa Day While confirming his safety, Omondi revealed that he had received information about a plan to harm him. To avoid arrest and ensure his safety, he disguised himself in a buibui.
“I am free. So I was in Uhuru Park the whole morning but I was disguised because I had been given intel and told to be careful. A certain Gen Z policeman called me at 6.30am and informed me that they had been given orders to deal with me once and for all,” Omondi said. However, when police used tear gas on the crowd, he was forced to remove the disguise because he couldn’t run while wearing it. According to Omondi, the police were surprised to discover his presence at the venue.
“Around 12pm, the police chased us and because I couldn’t run in the bui bui, I got noticed. The police were shocked to realise it was me. What’s important is that we showed up and celebrated our heroes,” he added. In a video he shared online, Omondi was seen passing by police officers unnoticed.
