Tanzania’s leading talent competition, Bongo Star Search (BSS), has officially expanded to Kenya. The show, which provides a platform for aspiring artists to showcase their skills and pursue their dreams, was launched in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Renowned Kenyan singer Sanaipei Tande, popularly known as Sana, will be a judge in the Kenyan edition. The Amina hitmaker will join the show’s resident judges, Salama Jabir, Master J, and founder and chief judge, Rita Paulsen.
Tande, a celebrated vocalist with decades of experience in the music industry, is highly regarded for her vocal prowess.
BSS has been instrumental in launching the careers of emerging artists, offering them a chance to gain national recognition.
Many former contestants have achieved significant success in the music and entertainment industry, making the competition a key part of Africa’s entertainment landscape.
At a press conference in Nairobi, Ms. Paulsen expressed her excitement about the show’s regional expansion: “This will be the 15th season since the show began in 2006. I decided to bring in more talent from Kenya, Uganda, and across East Africa, as my ultimate goal is to reach the entire African continent.”
She added, “I’m thrilled to see the incredible talent that Africa will showcase this season. This is not just a competition—it’s a celebration of music, culture, and performance.”
Paulsen also revealed the season’s slogan: Sasa, Beyond Border, Si Mchezoo.
BSS is the longest-running reality show in Tanzania.
Kenya’s open auditions are scheduled for November 30th and December 1st at the Kenya National Theatre.
After the auditions, the top five contestants will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Dar es Salaam to compete against participants from other countries for the Bongo Star Search title.
The grand finale will take place on February 28, 2025, at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
