A number of suspects who were seen on surveillance footage robbing a foreigner along Nairobi’s Ngong Road, according to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, have been arrested.

Governor Sakaja said on Twitter on Wednesday that the suspects were apprehended after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched an investigation into the incident.

“Thank you @DCI_Kenya for your action. These culprits have been nabbed by the DCI who will give further details of their action,” he wrote.

“We are grateful for the continued partnership in securing our County.”

In the now-viral CCTV footage, about 4 boda bodas, each with three occupants, were seen passing by three foreigners on June 1 at the Ngong Road-Jamhuri junction near the Brew Bistro lounge.

Another two boda bodas slowed down while approaching the foreigners, and a man was seen sneaking behind the trio before snatching one of their sling bags and running towards one of their escape motorbikes.

The distraught foreigners were joined by three colleagues seconds later as the suspects sped away.

The incident has since caused uproar among Kenyans online, who are calling for action from the authorities.
