Azimio on Tuesday held their consultative meeting at Jamuhuri grounds where they held discussions and made resolutions.

DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa announced that Azimio made five resolutions during the meeting.

He said the government had promised to lower the cost of living but instead imposed more taxes on Kenyans.

Wamalwa said they will continue to pile pressure on the government  to lower the cost of living.

He added that Azimio has resolved to walk out of the bipartisan talks.

“Having imposed on us the punitive taxation measures contained in the Finance Bill, 2023 in complete regards to our views we declare an end to the bi-partisan talks to which we had sent our delegation. It is time for action,” he said.

Wamalwa said Azimio has resolved to embark on a campaign of defiance and civil disobedience which will take different forms at different times.

He said the defiance will include refusal to pay taxes whose aim is to push President William Ruto out of office.

As a result, he said, Azimio will on July 7 unveil nationwide civil disobedience.

‘There will be a mass signature collection to signal the withdrawal of sovereignty from officials in the government who supported the Finance Bill,” he added.

On the fourth resolution, Wamalwa said they have decided to partner with civil societies to free Kenya to oversight the government and push them out of government.

He added that Azimio condemns Ruto’s regime’s lack of respect for the media.   BY THE STAR
