Health and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has expressed determination to deal with all corrupt individuals who have squandered public funds meant to help sick people.
Speaking in Tongaren on Friday during the thanksgiving mass at MP John home, the Cabinet Secretary confirmed there has been theft of public resources at the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
The health boss noted that President William Ruto is determined to ensure that his government is free from corruption, affirming that she is ready to support the president’s fight against graft.
“I want each Kenyan to receive quality services from all health facilities. Corruption brings down the quality of services that is why I have decided to crack thieves from the NHIF,” she said.
She added that in President Ruto’s budget, the health ministry got a lion’s share of Sh141 billion. of the amount, Sh50 million was allocated towards the Trans- Nzoia referral hospital, Sh50 million towards the construction of the KMTC at Ndalu, Tongaren Constituency and Sh100 million towards Kakamega County referral hospital among other projects to boost the health delivery.
“The 2023/24 budget is already out and I appreciate the MPs for passing it. I have now embarked on ensuring that I play my mandate as the CS health to ensure that priority projects are completed purposely to improve health delivery services in our counties,” she said.
In addition, Nakhumicha said that the government is also planning to construct a health complex in Bungoma County that will offer a training ground for all medical students in the region.
She noted that the government has reviewed the 8,570 contracts for the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) workers adding that the government has also allocated funds towards the payment of over 1000,000 community promoters.
“We have not forgotten anybody, even the community health promoters have been allocated funds for their stipends of Sh2, 500,” she noted. BY THE STAR
