KPLC cuts off power supply at MP Mbai’s Kitui home

Kenya Power has disconnected electricity to Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai’s rural home in Zombe area of Kitui.

This came days after MP Mbui allegedly assaulted a KPLC engineer in Kitengela.

Witnesses said the KPLC staff, who were sent from Nairobi under heavy security, also cut power to business premises owned by Mbai in Zombe market.

The reasons behind the move on the second term UDA MP’s premises are not clear.

Mbai was Monday on July 3,  caught on camera slapping a Kenya Power engineer while threatening to shoot him for disconnecting his power line.

Mbai also reached for and tucked his gun which was falling during his fit of rage.

In response to the incident, agitated KPLC workers staged a peaceful protest from the company’s offices in Epza to Kitengela police station Wednesday, condemning the incident.

The visit of the electricity workers was prompted by an outcry from the neighbourhood, where it was reported that the electricity had become dim and faulty

On July 5, Mbai wa released by police hours after his arrest at Kitengela police station.

The MP was arrested and taken to Kajiado court but the prosecution refused to admit the charges and demanded more statements from witnesses.

He was driven back to Kitengela police station where he was disarmed of his gun and later recorded further statements in the company of his lawyer.

Police informed him he would be charged with assault layer.

He was released on Sh50,000 police bond pending a court appearance on July 11 in Kajiado.

Mbai is a licensed firearm holder.    BY THE STAR
