KNEC announces training for KCSE examiners

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will conduct a training of examiners for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

In a notice released on Tuesday, the training is set to take place between August 13-19, 2023.

KNEC CEO David Njengere said only shortlisted applicants will pay a training fee of Sh10,500.

“The applicants will be notified through a text message and the portal on how to make the payments,” Njengere said.

He said the exercise will be strictly residential and the venue for training will be communicated to the shortlisted applicants upon payment of the training fee.

“KNEC will thereafter engage such examiners using the criteria for recruitment of examiners based on the personnel needs for each paper,” he said.

He added that teachers who are already trained as KCSE examiners and are in the KNEC database of examiners need not apply.

He reiterated that applications are invited from interested and qualified teachers for examination papers such as Kiswahili (Insha, Lugha, Fasihi), Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Home science, Islamic Religious Education, Agriculture, French, Arabic and Business Studies.

Interested candidates must be practicing teachers in the relevant subject area at the secondary school level.

He or She must be registered and/or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and have a diploma in education and above.

They should have a minimum teaching experience of three years and not be on interdiction or any other form of disciplinary action from the TSC.

In addition, applicants must be recommended by his/her head of institution and be 50 years of age and below.

Applicants have been advised to access the KNEC examiners’ portal for application.

“Those with Cp2 accounts should log into the portal using their usernames and passwords,” Njengere said.

“Upon successful login, complete your personal profile and save. On the dashboard, click on apply for training and all the declared vacancies will be available for the applicants to choose.”

He said the training slots are limited and once the required numbers are attained, the online application portal will close down.

According to KNEC, KCSE exams are set to start on October 23, 2023, and end on November 24, 2023.

The rehearsals will take place on October 19, 2023.    BY THE STAR
