DCI’s Serious Crimes Unit is appealing to anyone who may have fallen victim to a fake Nacada recruitment exercise to record a statement to aid ongoing investigations.
In a statement on Monday via Twitter, Director General Mohamed Amin said unsuspecting job seekers are being duped to forward their applications to an illegitimate email account by a set deadline.
“Once their personal details are obtained, a well-organized ring of fraudsters purporting to be NACADA Human Resource personnel engage individual applicants, guiding them through a process of making payments of not less than Sh1,350 before blocking further communication,” he said.
Amin said several arrests have already been made even as numerous complaints continue streaming into the DCI.
To break the syndicate and other such criminal undertakings, Amin has called on anyone who may have fallen victim to the hoax to record a statement with detectives and aid in the investigations.
“This is, therefore, to appeal to anyone who might have fallen victim to this confidence trick to report to DCI Headquarters Serious Crimes Unit at Block B room no. 55, for statement recording and further police assistance,” he said. BY THE STAR
