Why was Kenyan househelp fired? In a viral video shared on social media, the man revealed that he discovered the stash while going about his daily routine in the house.
Items hidden included basic kitchen items like flour, spices, ketchup, toilet paper, soap, and other cooking ingredients which she cleverly repacked. “Recently, we fired our househelp because we found out that she was stealing from us. Guess what I just found under her bed? All these, zilikuwa chini ya bed,” the man said in the video.
The video has since sparked conversations about how employers should handle such situations, with many divided on whether firing her was the right choice or whether offering assistance was a better course of action. Watch the video below. Netizens react to Nairobi househelp stealing
The revelation left netizens with mixed feelings. While some agreed with his decision to terminate her employment, others suggested a more compassionate approach. TUKO.co.ke compiled some of their reactions below: caraymeann: “Pay the house manager well and do shopping for them when they break for Xmas. That way they won’t steal from you.” diana_leighke: “You let her keep it but aende kabisa.
I would appreciate someone who asks in advance if you can consider kumfanyia shopping December akienda home and sometimes if she’s good unampea tu extra money akitravel akanunue mbele as compared to kubebana nazo from Nairobi.”
daniella.kitamirike: “Shop for her family.” gathonylyz: “Do not Steal! No justification for stealing ata mseme nini.” quts.waweru: “Let her go! if you are genuinely in need of something you ask for it and if your employer would not consider it ng’ang’ana on your side, stealing is wrong.
If your employer catches you stealing, how many would really listen to your petty excuses?” if_youre_a_black_gurl: “Let her keep the stuff…but fire her. Even the bible says ask and you shall be given not steal.” ythera_mb: “Those saying he should pay her better, aki some people just like stealing. You could give them more than enough and they’d still chuna chuna like it’s a hobby.”
