Oparanya is ‘flower girl’ not a threat in politics – MP Ruku

Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku has defended Ex-Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya after EACC detectives went after him on Wednesday, over financial management during his tenure.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, Ruku said he believes Oparanya is politically harmless to be associated with any corrupt activities during his term in office.

“We can’t say that Oparanya is one of those national leaders who must be contained. Contained because of what? Oparanya can only do politics in Kakamega and he can’t even go anywhere else.

“He can’t go to Bungoma or Vihiga. So I don’t think Oparanya is a threat politically to Kenya Kwanza administration,” Ruku said.

He noted that Oparanya is innocent and the current government is politically not after him.

“Oparanya is a flower girl and I don’t think Kenya Kwanza administration is in the business of running after flower girls,” Ruku said.

“I don’t think Oparanya can be targeted by the Kenya Kwanza administration for whatever reason. In any case, he is completely harmless when it comes to politics of this nation.”

He however said the ex-governor should bear the full responsibility if any of the investigations conducted turn true.

“If there is any corruption which occurred during his tenure as a governor of Kakamega then he should be able to carry his baby and carry it quietly,” Ruku said.

“Kenya Kwanza government is not in any business of witch hunt. They respect the administration, the rule of law and the right of any person to associate politically with any side.

“There is no witch hunt. There must be some issues which he needs to take care of himself that EACC thinks are of a corrupt nature.”

He called on the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission to speed up the investigations and conduct them in a truthful manner.

“EACC must conduct their work in a manner it doesn’t portray or come out politically or as if there is a witch hunt. It must be able to get the faith and trust of Kenyans,” Ruku said.   BY THE STAR
