Angolan President Joao Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço is expected to be among the foreign Presidential dignitaries who will grace this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kericho County.
This was confirmed by the Angolan Ambassador to Kenya Mr. Sianga Abilio who paid a courtesy call to the Kericho County Governor Dr. Eric Mutai and informed him that the Angolan President was prepared to join Kenyans in the celebrations to be held at the newly revamped Kericho Green Stadium.
The Angolan President ascended to power on September 26, 2017, as the third president of the Southern African nation.
“I am glad to inform you that my President H.E Joao Manuel will be the guest of honor and he is ready to join Kericho residents and other Kenyans during the Mashujaa celebrations,” remarked Amb. Abilio.
Governor Mutai briefed the diplomat on various government interventions ongoing across Kericho town including the construction of Kerenga Airstrip, re-carpeting of roads, and revamping of the stadium and the County Commissioner’s residence in readiness for the big day whose theme will focus on Universal Health Coverage.
In a joint press conference, Dr. Mutai said the bilateral talks also focused on various business opportunities between Kericho and the oil-rich nation, especially on direct export of tea and coffee.
“After taking him on a tour of the stadium, the ambassador was impressed with the level of our preparedness to host the event and promised to bring the Angolan delegation early enough to enjoy the ambiance of our beautiful county,” added Dr. Mutai. BY KBC NEWS
