A motorbike rider died on the spot and his pillion passenger was left nursing serious injuries after the motorbike they were riding on was involved in a road accident along the Enoosaen -Olgumi road in Trans Mara West Sub County.

An eye-witness, Samuel Sire said the motorbike rider was attempting to overtake a tractor that was transporting sugarcane when accidentally the bike fell and hit the front wheel of the tractor.

“The tractor and the motorbike were being driven from the Enoosaen sides, the tractor was heavily loaded and was moving at a slow pace down the sloppy road as the motorbike followed from behind,” narrated the eyewitness.

According to Sire, the tractor driver tried to stop but could not avoid running over the body of the motorbike rider as he was driving down the slope.

The motorbike rider died on the spot while the survivor was rushed to Rapcom Hospital, Awendo Migori County for medication.

The two were identified as scrap metal dealers who used to visit schools, collecting scrap metals.

Sire observed that the road is very slippery during the rainy season, calling on the road officers to install bumps to control the speed of motorists.

“I urge the Mara Sugar Company and Narok county government to consider installing bumps and signages along the road to caution motorists,” he said.

Narok County Police Commander John Kizito called on motorbike riders to take caution as they ply along the highways to avoid accidents.

“It is better to arrive home or place of work late but safe than going back home in a coffin,” he warned.

The body of the deceased was preserved at Kilgoris Sub County morgue awaiting postmortem.   BY KNA
