Kenyan artist Kelvin Bahati recently made his debut appearance on the popular Mic Cheque podcast, hosted by Chaxxy, Mariah, and Mwas.
Despite the absence of Mwas—often considered the comic relief of the show—the episode was filled with laughs, lively banter, and some deeply personal revelations.
The episode started on a light note, with Chaxxy asking Bahati about his family background, noting that many fans know him from his humble beginnings in a children’s home.
“I had three brothers, but one passed away. I also have an older sister, although no one in the public really knows her,” Bahati shared.
When asked why his sister remains unknown to the public, Bahati explained:
“It’s just that we’re not on good terms; we don’t actually talk.”
Although the Odhiambo hitmaker initially hesitated to delve deeper—mentioning that he preferred to share the full story on his upcoming Netflix show—he eventually opened up about the strained relationship.
Bahati recounted that during the early stages of his music career, when his now-wife Diana had moved into his home, a troubling incident occurred.
“I had left some money in the house, and my sister took it. She then went as far as sending a fake prophet to claim that God had shown him I was living with a thief,” he said.
“Fortunately, Diana and I had travelled for a show that day.”
The artist explained that his strong spiritual beliefs made him particularly vulnerable to the deception.
“The so-called prophet came to me and said, ‘I am a prophet, and God has shown me that you are living with a thief who has stolen your money.’ It hurt so much to realise that my sister went to such lengths,” Bahati said.
He added that had he not been away with Diana at the time, he might have fallen for the scheme—and their relationship might have ended before it had a chance to flourish.
Reflecting on the fallout, Bahati said:
“It’s hard to make peace because she felt so entitled—as if, because she is my sister, she should have access to everything. Even now, she has never owned up to her mistakes and still insists that my wife stole the money.”
Despite the strained relationship, Bahati revealed that he continues to support his sister financially whenever she is in need.
