President William Ruto has officially handed over 60 housing units at Chuka Police Station in Igambang’ombe Sub-County, Tharaka Nithi County.
The project, undertaken by the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, comprises 12 two-bedroom units and 48 bed-sitter apartments, which will significantly improving the living conditions of police officers.
Speaking during the hand over ceremony, President Ruto expressed his satisfaction with the project’s completion, describing it as a key milestone in the government’s plan to construct 27,000 housing units for police officers nationwide.
“We are constructing 27,000 housing units for our police officers under the Affordable Housing Programme.” The President said.

The President who is on an official development tour of Mt. Kenya region, further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhance police welfare and operational efficiency by providing modern and dignified housing, ultimately improving service delivery to the public as well as reviewing their terms of service and salaries.
“We are also reviewing their terms of service and salaries, having already rolled out Phase One of the salary increment. Our goal is to boost their morale, enabling them to serve the people diligently and protect lives and property.” He added.
At the same time, the President laid the foundation stone for the construction of the 385-unit Chuka Public Works Affordable Housing Project.
He also inspected the Ksh.290 million Chuka Modern Market that will accommodate more than 350 traders.
Upon arrival, the President was received by the Inspector General (IG) of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, and the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Administration Police Service (DIG APS), Gilbert Masengeli.
