WIPER Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has, for the first time, opened up about his personal life, particularly his marriage.
In an exclusive interview at his home with TV47, Musyoka revealed how he met his wife, Pauline, more than 40 years ago, before he even entered politics.
He disclosed that they dated for 13 years, and after being elected as a Member of Parliament for the then Kitui North Constituency, he took less than 9 months to officially marry her.
“I was elected to Parliament in 1985 after losing the 1983 elections. My Kitui North Constituency elected me while I was still single. I won the election in April, and by December of that year, I had ensured I was married because I had been in a relationship with my wife for 13 years,” Musyoka revealed.
The veteran politician shared that his wife, who was his girlfriend at the time, loved him so much that despite coming from a different constituency, she ensured she cast her vote in Kalonzo’s constituency just to support him.
The Secret to His Youthful Appearance at 71
When asked about the secret to his youthful look despite being 71 years old, Kalonzo attributed it to self-care and a healthy lifestyle, revealing that he has never smoked a cigarette in his life.
“I have always emphasized that one should not do anything in excess. I have never been a smoker, and to this day, I have never smoked a cigarette. I don’t drink alcohol, although I occasionally sip a little wine at social gatherings just to blend in, but I don’t really like it,” he said.
He stressed that one’s lifestyle choices significantly impact aging over time.
He also highlighted his personal discipline, stating that he has always believed that a strong man is one who can stand on his own without being influenced by external pressures.
“While my friends would get drunk at parties, I would get drunk on soda, and that’s something I’ve done since way back,” he added.
