Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary (PS), Raymond Omollo, has urged youth from Migori to apply for the National Identification Card (ID) made free by President William Ruto.
Omollo, who joined Kuria West Member of Parliament Mathias Robi in witnessing a remarkable display of government services in action through the Huduma Centre at Nyabohanse Market in Kuria West Sub County, called upon the youth to apply for the crucial document to enable them to access government services.
The President’s directive reverses a previously gazetted fee hike, which had increased the cost of obtaining an Identification Card (ID) for first-time applicants from Sh100 to Sh300 in 2024.
Omollo also disclosed that gazetted new administrative units will soon be operationalised, citing financial challenges that had delayed the process.
He called upon both the two houses, the National Assembly (NA) and the Senate, to help and support the process of more resource allocation to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to help operationalise the new gazetted administrative units right from the sub-location to the division level to boost security, governance and service delivery across the country.
The PS also explained that his office will continue to engage elders from the Transmara-Kuria-Kisii border sections to come up with workable solutions to avoid border clashes.
He acknowledged that the engagement with elders along the troubled Transmara that borders the counties of Migori, Narok and Kisii will create a proper mechanism for administering the areas, including increasing the number of security camps along the border.
The PS, however, disclosed that the Ministry of Interior was in the process of working on a policy direction to enable it to administer administrative units equitably across the country.
Kuria West Member of Parliament Mathias Robi, while speaking at the event, said that his initiative by the constituency office to empower more than 2,000 women in 40 groups will generate wealth within the sub-county.
Robi said that the initiative aims to give crucial empowerment support to Kurian women to improve their livelihoods and contribute economically to Migori County.
He pointed out that the transformative programme aims to provide women with financial resources, business training, and support to enhance their economic independence and uplift their communities.
Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, who accompanied the leaders, said that the initiative by Kuria West MP Mathias Robi to invest in Kuria women will foster entrepreneurship, job creation, and sustainable development among the women.
Ochilo stressed that the empowerment initiative will reinforce his administrative commitment to empowering Migori women to stir economic growth and social progress in the county.
In attendance were Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, Migori County Women Representative Fatuma Mohammed, Kuria East MP Kitayama Maisori, and several MCAs from Migori County.
